Agriades glandon

Agriades glandon

The "hero of two worlds"! Found in Europe as well as in North America and Northern Asia, Agriades glandon is the typical companion of summer alpine hikes.

It loves the chill of the Pyrenees and it is not unusual to find it surrounded by Astragalus flowers. This small butterfly belongs to the open-winged Lycenidae family and can be silver, steel blue or bright light blue in color with wings turning browner towards the edges. Both sexes have black spots circled with white on the gray-brown background on the underside of the wings and, occasionally, orange spots. The butterfly flocks from mid-May through September but the period may vary depending on the location where it lives.
